Chapter 15

Upon hearing this, Anuo's steps came to a halt.

During lunchtime, in the clinic's reception area, there were only the nurse, Anuo, and this woman.

Seemingly sensing the woman's hostile intent, the nurse forced a smile and said, "Hello, Dr. Chen is currently treating a patient. Please wait over there for a moment."

The woman let out a cold, high-pitched laugh, her cheekbones high, her eyes sharply angled, with wrinkles aplenty, giving her a particularly harsh appearance.

She leaned forward, used her index finger to push the nurse's shoulder, displaying her impatience, and said, "Hurry up and get him out here. He's a doctor, for God's sake. Have you never seen a doctor before?"

The nurse moved back, losing her patience, and said, "If you're here to cause trouble..."

The woman slammed her hand on the desk, her red nails resembling bloodstains. "Don't give me that crap! Make him come out right now! What kind of nonsense is this? You're messing around with my daughter at your age?"

Hearing these words, the nurse's eyes widened in disbelief. She likely hadn't encountered a situation like this before and was flustered. She said, "Please calm down..."

Anuo's breath caught, and she opened her mouth to retort, but her voice was completely drowned out by the woman's loud tone.

"Calm down my a**!"

Just then, Chen Baifan walked out of the treatment room.

Perhaps he had heard the commotion from inside, and he removed his face mask. His eyes were calm and collected, as he looked in their direction, passing over Anuo and stopping on the woman. "Are you looking for me?"

The nurse, in a hurry to explain, said, "Dr. Chen, this lady is saying..."

Upon seeing him, the woman immediately stepped forward and started pushing Chen Baifan. "What kind of doctor are you? My daughter is about to take the college entrance exam, damn you!"

Chen Baifan was caught off guard by the initial push, and he took a step back. His gaze turned cold as he watched the situation.

Witnessing this, Anuo's mind went blank. She stood there, watching as the woman continued to assault Chen Baifan.

Anuo gritted her teeth, and without thinking, she rushed forward to push the woman away.

Despite being significantly shorter than Chen Baifan, she stood unflinchingly in front of him, her voice trembling as she said, "What are you doing?!"

Her act of courage surprised everyone, including Chen Baifan, who was momentarily taken aback. He gazed at the small figure before him, a mix of astonishment and admiration in his voice, "Anuo..."

The woman was pushed back a couple of steps and became even angrier. She pointed at Anuo and cursed, "Who is this whore? How dare you push me?!"

Growing angrier as she spoke, she approached and raised her hand, ready to strike Anuo.

Chen Baifan noticed her actions and quickly pulled Anuo out of harm's way.

However, it was too late, and the woman's nails scratched Anuo's cheek, causing it to bleed.

Anuo winced but didn't cry out. She held her face with her hand, trying to bear the pain.

Chen Baifan gently took her hand away, looking closely at the wound on her face.

The woman remained in place, shocked at how the situation had escalated. She didn't know what to do and started dialing her phone in a panicked state.

Chen Baifan lifted the armrest of the dental chair and had Anuo sit down.

He stared at the cut on her left cheek, and his expression tightened. He gently rubbed her head and reassured her, "I'll go get some medicine. Wait here."

Anuo clutched his white coat, then softly asked, "Aren't you going to the hospital? It seems like they need to do that injury evaluation."

"Let's take care of the wound first, then we can go to the hospital," Chen Baifan said. "If it leaves a scar, you'll definitely cry."

Anuo didn't quite catch what he said and looked at him in confusion. Quickly, her eyes lowered.

She instinctively wanted to touch the wound on her face but was stopped by Chen Baifan, who gently held her wrist. He lowered his voice and said, "Don't touch it for now."

"Is the wound big? I feel like it's not even considered a minor injury," Anuo pointed to the stinging spot on her face and thought of the woman who had cursed Chen Baifan. She seemed slightly disappointed. "I wish I'd hit her back earlier."

Noticing her expression, Chen Baifan couldn't help but smile. "You're unhappy even though it's a minor wound?"

Anuo played with her fingers, her eyelashes trembling. She spoke nonchalantly, "She cursed me."

Hearing her, Chen Baifan ruffled his hair in frustration. "I'm sorry."

"Why are you apologizing?" Anuo looked at him puzzled. "Are you regretting not hitting her back for me?"

"You would have suffered if I did." She sniffled and said, quite seriously, "If you'd hit her, she might have been seriously injured, and we'd be the ones in trouble."

"...Why do I find you incredibly cute like this?"

With an awkward expression, Chen Baifan looked away and patted Anuo's head. "You wait for me here."

He then left the treatment room.

Watching his departing figure, Anuo squinted her eyes and touched the wound on her face, letting out a painful hiss.

Tears rolled down uncontrollably due to the pain. She couldn't stop them.

She didn't dare to cry too much, afraid that tears would seep into the wound and leave a scar. When her tears flowed, she would pitifully wipe them away with her sleeve.

When Chen Baifan returned, he immediately noticed that An Nuo's eyes had reddened again.

Her large, watery eyes, combined with her fair complexion, made the redness around her eyes stand out.

His heart was once again pierced by the sight.

Chen Baifan approached and helped clean the wound. Then he tore open a bag containing medical cotton and dipped it in some iodine before gently applying it to the wound.

An Nuo was pinching her dress, either due to the pain or other emotions, and her face involuntarily moved away from him.

Seeing her reaction, Chen Baifan stopped and asked, "Did it hurt?"

Hearing his question, An Nuo's tears seemed to well up even more, unable to control the emotions that rushed out when consoled. Her words were stuttered and choked with tears.

"N-No, it didn't hurt."

Another lie.

Chen Baifan, his eyes downcast, quietly observed her.

An Nuo gazed at him, and from this angle, she could see his features clearly, even the roots of his eyelashes.

In his dark, intense eyes, some indescribable emotions were surging.

An Nuo opened her mouth, intending to say something, but as she did, Chen Baifan raised his hand again, holding the cotton, and attentively tended to her wound.

Soon, he discarded the used cotton in the trash and spoke slowly, with a serious tone.

"Don't believe what that person said."

An Nuo dabbed her face with two pieces of tissue, concealing her expression behind them. Her voice was soft and soothing, like a gentle breeze, filled with reassurance. "Her words were vulgar; you can just pretend you didn't hear. No one will believe her."

Just then, there was some commotion outside.

An Nuo listened carefully for a moment and stood up. As she walked out, she said, "It sounds like the police have arrived."

Chen Baifan followed her, stepping alongside her.

Outside, two police officers were talking to the nurse. Unexpectedly, the middle-aged woman hadn't left yet. She was frowning and ignoring the police officer standing in front of her.

Seeing the arrival of the officers, a young couple also walked in their direction.

The young man was dragging the young woman by the wrist and appeared quite impatient. He scolded, "What did you do this time? It led to the police getting involved? You have some talent, I have to admit."

The girl next to him looked much younger, and half her face was swollen, as if she had just been hit.

The woman finally turned her head, her eyes red. She shouted, "How dare you talk to your mother like that? I came to help my daughter get justice after she was bullied. What's wrong with that?"

An Nuo's gaze focused on the young man.

Lin Wei.

Lin Wei furrowed his brows and turned to the young woman, asking lightly, "What happened?"

The young woman lowered her head, her shoulders trembling, appearing to be crying.

Lin Wei sighed, scratching his head and speaking first, "An Nuo, I'm sorry. My mom acted impulsively."

Realizing she had wrongly accused the wrong person, Lin Wei's mother squeezed her fingers together, walked over, and apologized, "Dr. Chen and this young lady, I'm truly sorry."

An Nuo did not look at either of them. After a moment of silence, she calmly asked, "What if I don't agree to reconcile?"

"If you're not willing to reconcile, you can go to the hospital for an examination and forensic evaluation. In that case, we will handle this as a public security case. Your injuries should be considered more than minor. Depending on the circumstances, the other party may be detained for 5 to 10 days, or 5 days or less for milder cases."

An Nuo nodded and then lifted her gaze, unhesitatingly saying, "Then, I don't want to reconcile."
